Look Up

Hey Good People,

Fun fact about me: I used to fall all the time as a child. I mean all the time. I would trip over my shoelaces, trip over the curb and some times just trip over my own feet. Oh, and forget trying to run! My feet would always let me down, literally. I was straight up clumsy. I can feel you laughing… its ok. I’m here to tell my testimony and I’m grateful.

Because used to fall often, I developed a bad habit of looking down when I walk. I saw it as me “watching my step” and trying to be careful so I don’t fall again. You know, trying to be cautious to avoid falling, messing up and causing more bruises on myself.

One day, some time ago, I was walking and watching my step as I often do. While walking, I heard some one say “Look up!” I didn’t recognize the voice but I obeyed. Then the person said, “don’t walk with your head down, you may miss something.” That spoke to me! I still don’t know who that stranger was but I’m grateful for his encouragement.

This is what God helped me to see from that experience:

Life can cause bumps and bruises that will make us feel so cautious and careful that we spiritually walk with our heads down. Watching our step. Trying our best not to fall and make the same mistake again. We can do this so much that we miss things that God wants us to see. Or miss the things He wants us to see more clearly. We miss the fact that He is there to help and guide us. And let’s not forget that He already has our steps ordered!

Here’s some encouragement in scripture:

Psalm 121:1-2: I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2: My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 37:23-24: The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; 24: though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.

It’s clear that God doesn’t want us to be burdened down by our troubles. He wants us to look to Him for help. If I can name one thing I love about Him, it’s that He’s a perfect gentlemen. He’s not going to force you to see Him as your help and guide. There may even be a time or two or three that He allows you to fall so you have no choice but to look to Him.

It doesn’t have to get to that point though. If you are currently trying to walk in your own strength while constantly “looking down” to see where you’re going, I encourage you to look up. Take courage and know that God will be there to help guide you through your journey. He won’t let you down.

As always, remember your portion has purpose. Don’t get so busy watching where you’re going that you miss it.  Look up.

With Love,

Tam
